A Future Age - Rainmeter Theme - (Final)

Full View Please! - It's much crisper then it appears in this preview.

Update 6.27.2012: Unexpectedly, I have received so many requests for this Theme that I threw up my hands and put together the best package I could, considering the circumstances. Here is the link to the downloadable package with the .rmskin, instructions, etc. [link]

Update 6.24.2012 - I had an accident earlier today, and I managed to delete all the work files associated with this project. To say I am miffed is a deep understatement. In any case, those of you have requested this, or were going to, please be aware that I can supply the 1280 x 1024 version of this, and that's it. So much for the updates to this I was going to make later this year. <cries>

Rainmeter Theme - A Future Age

This is my attempt to create a Myst(TM) inspired Desktop. Myst is the first of a series of games by Cyan Productions. I could say a lot more about this series of games, but it would take up this entire post. Needless to say, it's visual look is unique, and I wanted to have a Desktop that would mesh with my Slideshow of the many images I have from the Games.

I hope that someday I can come back to this and improve it. I learned a lot while working on this Theme, but it's obvious I've got a ways to go still.

A Future Age - Theme Details

My previous Rainmeter theme was a breeze compared to this. I had huge expectations for this Theme, and fell way short. On the other hand, I learned how to make really neat buttons, sort of animate my CPU meter, and in the process of all this I gained some skill with Photoshop Styles. The wallpaper, icons, buttons...pretty much everything is a Photoshop Style on top of a bunch of simple 2D images.

This Theme has a couple of neat things that folks on the Rainmeter forums helped me with. Neato Slideshow buttons that have hover affects, and additional code that causes one button to update/change another. Also, instead of a standard vertical or horizontal CPU bar, I've got a meter that displays 1 of 3 images, depending on the state of my CPU. (That would be the big Crystal shown in the Top Left corner).

I created brand new images for all my Stardock ObjectDock icons. The top Tab icons came out fine, but I'm not super happy with the Launch icons down on the bottom left.

Generally speaking, most of what you see was created by me. Any exceptions are listed below.

Operating System - Windows XP SP 2
Windows Theme - NeoGeniX LS by `dobee
Desktop Wallpaper - Created by me, using Photoshop CS4, specifically for this Theme. Main stone texture found online and edited by me.

Audio Player - Winamp
Winamp Rainmeter Skin (Slightly Modded) - Loita by Lgv91
As an aside, when I took this Screenshot, I was listening to the Riven Soundtrack, by Robyn Miller.

Shortcut Management - Object Dock by Stardock
Object Dock Icons - Created by me. Text and Photoshop Styles. Font credits below.
Launch Dock Icons (Bottom Left): Forerunner Font by ~Alteran-X
Tabbed Dock Icons (Top Right): Sequence, Created by Brian Kent, can be downloaded via DaFonts: [link]

Misc Skins listed by appearance in above screenshot, Left to Right, Top to Bottom.

Desktop Monitor - Rainmeter

Top Processes (Modded) - Cobalt by ~OsricWuscfrea

CPU, Ram, Drives - Basic Rainmeter code. Progress bar by me.

Weather Skin (Slightly Modded) - Skyslate by ~scrollsofaryavart

Calendar Skin (Slightly Modded) - Skyslate by ~scrollsofaryavart

Time Skin (Slightly Modded) - - Skyslate by ~scrollsofaryavart

Google Search (Slightly Modded) - - Skyslate by ~scrollsofaryavart

Wallpaper Chooser - - Black-Apps by ~ASkBlaster

Rainmeter Refresh - - </b> Refresh 2.0 by ~Dr-Customs
Refresh Icon - Handprint of Yeesha, from a much larger image I found online, unknown author.

CPU BAR - That would be the Crystal shown in the Screenshot, Top Right. The images were created by me. The crystal resembles the huge crystals that appear in URU Online. A huge thank you to ~jsmorely for helping me with the advanced code for this. This is not a bar at all, but a meter that displayers 1 of 3 different images depending on the state of the CPU.

Slideshow Skin (Modded) - Thanks for the Basic code goes to a bunch of Rainmeter Devs and Coders. A HUGE thank you should go to the folks on the Rainmeter forums who helped me with the advanced code for the Slideshow Buttons.

Slideshow Frame - Created by me using Photoshop Styles.

Slideshow Control Buttons - - Photoshop Styles created by me. Style uses a great pattern: Abstract Pattern 10.0 by *Sed-rah-Stock

Slideshow Image - A rendered image from the Noloben Age in Myst 5: End of Ages, by Cyan Productions. Found online, artist unknown.

Have you heard cyan are currently running a Kickstarter for their new game Obduction? Check it out and support if you can… We need all the Myst fans we can get. Maybe you'll be able to make a theme based on it too. :-)

Wow thanks! I did my best to have the theme reflect the artistry of the games. I'm going to re-visit the Myst franchise again, once I have a real computer with a higher resolution. I loved running this theme so much that I'm putting on hold my "glass" theme, and will be working on another Myst theme instead.
